Commissioner Odneal Taking Public Comment on Flock Cameras
SHAWNEE, OK — Commissioner Chris Odneal is encouraging residents to share their questions and concerns regarding the use of Flock Safety cameras in the community, emphasizing that decisions involving public safety, privacy, and emerging technology deserve meaningful public input.
Flock cameras are automated license plate reader systems that capture vehicle information law enforcement can search. Similar systems have generated public debate in Oklahoma and nationally over how collected information is stored, accessed, shared, and protected.
“When residents raise concerns about technology being used in their community, they deserve an opportunity to be heard,” said Commissioner Odneal. “Public safety is important, but so are privacy, transparency, and accountability. I want to hear directly from our citizens about their questions and concerns before we determine the best path forward.”
Odneal is taking public comments from residents and encouraging community members to share their experiences, questions, and opinions regarding the cameras.
“This is exactly what local government should do—listen,” Odneal said. “People should understand how technology is being used in their community, what safeguards are in place, and who has access to the information being collected. Those are fair questions, and our citizens deserve clear answers.”
As Ward 3 Commissioner, Odneal has made constituent engagement a focus of his service, including public meetings, community forums, monthly coffee chats, and direct voter contact.
